Clutch Win!

April 11 at Oakland A's

Back to the Grind,
or Just Grinded?

Today's Sox cut of meat:
7-bone steak
All the elements for a complete win.

Short Take: Buehrle back to form and Sox bats come through for a come-from-behind win in Oakland.

Less than 24 hours after Bobby Jenks walked on the mound in Oakland and served up some mighty tasty meatballs to Oakland hitters, the Sox rebounded in fine fashion this afternoon with clutch hits and dazzling pitching in today's 6-3 win over the A's to even the Sox record at 4-4.

Let's face it, Oakland has not been a nice place for our Sox, the last time the Sox had won a series in Oakland was the 2000 season. Finally, today Mark Buehrle and the Sox ended that drought.

It didn't start out pretty though as Oakland jumped on Mark Buehrle in the first inning scoring three runs on three doubles by Shannon Stewart, Mike Piazza, and Eric Chavez. Buehrle was able to get last night's hero Todd Walker to ground into a double play to end the inning.

The Sox struck back off Joe Kennedy, Juan Uribe singled in Jermaine Dye to make it a 3-1 A's lead in the second. When Buehrle went back to work in the second, he set himself on cruise control. He retired 16 of 17 batters and while the Sox would threaten throughout the game... they came up empty, until the eighth.

Jermaine Dye busted out of his early season slump in a big way. He launched a game tying two run home run off Justin Duchscherer to tie the game at three. In the ninth, the Sox broke the game open with three runs. With the bases loaded Darin Erstad hit a sacrifice fly to untie the game giving the Sox a 4-3 lead. Two batters later with the bases loaded again, Paul Konerko came through with a deep shot to the wall in left field scoring two more runs giving the Sox a 6-3 lead.

In came Bobby Jenks in the ninth inning for the third straight night. While many Sox fans went for the anti-acid, Jenks retired the A's 1-2-3 with a fist pump to end the game giving the Sox the win and their first series win of 2007. With a off day tomorrow, the Sox travel to snowy Cleveland where the Indians will finally hold their opening day and Javier Vazquez and Fausto Carmona will duke it out. Vazquez will try and continue what he started last Saturday by having our starters give quality starts. Game time of Friday is at 6:05pm and will be televised on Comcast SportsNet Plus.
