WSI News - Totally Biased Game Recaps

Pathetic

August 22 vs. Detroit Tigers

How was the trophy defended today?
Sox seem to want to give it to the Tigers instead of defending it...

Short Take:  Another lifeless effort by our Sox puts them 7 1/2 behind the Central leading Tigers.

The Tigers just seem to want it more. The Sox have completely dominated the Tigers all season long...until yesterday. In the first two games of this HUGE four game series the Sox have been out pitched, out hit, out ran, and out of answers to a team that looks completly different than the team the Sox swept the second weekend of August.

In a game that had the Tigers commit three, yes, three errors in the field, the wheels were never on for the Sox as in the first inning Mark Buehrle was touched up for two runs. The first run came on a Magglio Ordonez RBI single and the second on a bases loaded walk to Marcus Thames giving the Tigers a 2-0 lead.

While the home plate umpire didn't help out Mark tonight, (which got Ozzie tossed in the second while arguing the two-team strike zone) it's still his job to get batters out, which was something he wasn't able to do again with two outs in the third inning. Carlos Guillen doubled, then scored on Marcus Thames RBI triple. Marcus Thames became another two out killer with a solo home run in the fifth inning giving the Tigers the 4-0 edge they needed to secure the win. Actually, all they needed was one.

With the Sox lifeless bats throughout the game, Kenny Rogers was able to push them down just like the camera man he pushed around last summer. The Sox had a bases loaded "threat" in the seventh inning with two outs, but Sandy Alomar Jr. was unable to one-up his replacement Chris Widger, Sandy hit a weak ground ball to short to end the inning. Paul Konkero killed a mild threat in the eighth. After a Tadahito Iguchi single and Ross Gload walk with no outs, Jim Thome lined into a force out leaving runners on first and second for Paulie. The ALCS MVP couldn't connect for anything put a perfect 6-4-3 DP to end the inning.

While Buehrle didn't pitch bad enough to lose, he didn't pitch good enough to win, couple that with the Sox only five hits and...well you get the idea. The Sox drop tonight's contest 4-0. The lone highlight was the shutout ball the combination of Mike MacDougal and Brandon McCarthy threw. Maybe it will carryover to tomorrow night when Freddy Garcia and Zach Miner go at it at 6:05pm for the third game of the set. The loss puts the Sox 7 1/2 out of first place, but wait...believe it for not there is some good news. The Twins lost their game to Baltimore so the Sox still hang on to their slim 1/2 game AL Wild Card lead. Hoo-ray!
