Royal Beatdown

April 17 vs Kansas City Royals

How was the trophy defended today?
Jose Contreras mastered his 7 innings, Sox bats pound Royals into the night!

Short Take:  Royals didn't stand a chance against the Sox piching and hitting attack!

Not enough can be said about Jose Conteras's night against the Royals. Besides shutting the team out while only giving up a single hit to Mark Grudzielanek in his seven innings of work, the Sox bullpen duo Boone Logan and Cliff Politte did their jobs as the Sox bats continue their hot streak on a cold South Side night as the Sox take the first in this three game series 9-0.

The game would start off pretty enough. The Sox sent eight batters to the plate in a five run first. Paul Konerko connected for his fifth home run of the season, a three run bomb that landed way back of the Sox bullpen. Joe Crede got into the action with a two run dinger to give Contreras more than enough run support.

The lone hit the Sox pitching gave up tonight was a double to Mark Grudzielanek in the fourth inning. In his seven innings of work, Jose would stike out six Royal hitters while only walking one.

Jim Thome added to the lead in the fifth. His RBI single scored Scott Podsednik (who went 2-5 today) made it 6-0 Pale Hose. The next batter, Paul Konerko doubled scoring Tadahito Iguchi making it 7-0. The Sox added another run to Joe Mays ERA in the sixth, Juan Uribe led off with a double and later scored on a Podsednik RBI single making it 8-0. The Sox would tally one more run in the seventh on a Pablo Ozuna RBI single putting the game even more out of reach.

With tonight's win, the Sox keep pace with the Cleveland Indians with a record of 8-5. Tomorrow, Jon Garland will try and rebound from his past two starts against Jeremy Affeldt. Game time is 7:05pm and you can see it on Comcast Sports Net.
