Royal Pain

September 8 vs Royals

Sox Magic Number:
15
"The Indians win...again, so the countdown is halted for a day."

Short Take:  The Sox forget how to play baseball in this 4-2 loss to the Royals.

The Chicago White Sox gave the WSIers the middle finger at Core of the Core night. Freddy Garcia had one bad inning which was coupled with the Sox lifeless effort on the South Side.

The Sox looked like they had something going in the first inning off J.P. Howell. Scott Podsednik led off with a walk. Tadahito Iguchi did his part by getting Podsednik over, but Carl Everett couldn't get anything started with a ground out. Paul Konerko came up to the plate and it was obvious Howell didn't want any part of him. Konerko walked putting two runners on for Aaron Rowand who would stike out to end the inning.

Howell was no-hitting the Sox until the fifth inning. With two outs Chris Widger hit a ground rule double which was followed up by a walk to Pablo Ozuna. Scott Podsednik hit a RBI single that scored Widger to make it 1-0 Sox and advancing Pablo to third. With Iguchi batting, Ozuna stole home on a pickoff attempt to first base making it 2-0 Sox. That didn't seem to bother Howell one bit as the Sox couldn't get any more hits off Howell and the Royals bullpen.

Freddy Garcia went back to work in the sixth inning and gave those two runs right back and one more for kicks. With runners on second and third, Mark Teahen grounded out which scored Matt Stairs and moving Emil Brown to third. The next batter, Angel Berroa hit a two run homer to put K.C. up 3-2. They put a night cap up in the eighth inning. With Luis Vizcaino in, and runners on the corners, Angel Berroa took a page out of the Sox book and put down a bunt that had Luis only looking to first base and letting the runner score making it 4-2 Royals.

The Sox will have to settle for the series win with the 4-2 loss. They welcome the Los Angeles Angles of Anaheim to the Cell this weekend. Mark Buehrle will put on the green pinstripes for Halfway to St. Patrick's Day. Buehrle will match up against Jarrod Washburn. Game time is at 7:05 and the game will be televised on WCIU.

WSI's
Ozzieball Update:
Ozuna puts Ozzieball in full force stealing home, too bad no one else played tonight.

Pablo Ozuna

He'll make J.P. Howell think twice again while trying to pick off a runner on first with a guy on third.
