WSI News - Totally Biased Game Recaps

Day and Night

August 30 at Texas

How many Grinders did KW use today:
6
"BMac with a strong showing, Carl, A.J., Rowand, Dye, and Podsednik help put runs on the board."

Short Take:  In Game 1 the Sox don't make the plays and give the Rangers a 8-6 win. In Game 2 Brandon McCarthy shut down the Rangers and the Sox beat up on the Rangers rookie pitcher for a 8-0 win.

Game 1: Texas 8 Sox 6

The Sox had two to play today in hot Texas against Mark Teixeria and the rest of the Rangers. Teixeria was a one man wrecking crew in the first game which was coupled with more crappy defense. Our trading dealine savior Geoff Blum pulled a Iguchi today. Blum started at third base in place of Crede who is on the DL. Blum made two errors that led to four runs! Teixeria, on the other hand didn't need the Sox to botch plays. He had six RBI's by the forth inning and hit two home runs, one homer somehow carried to right field and bounced on top of the fense into the seats.

The Sox had the offense today, they got a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning on two RBI singles by Carl Everett and A.J. Pierzynski. Jon Garland got hit hard in his 4 1/3 innings pitched. The Rangers quickly tied the game on a home run by... guess who. The Sox just weren't able to hold the lead this afternoon. They took a 3-2 lead in the top of the second. But, they gave it right back. The Rangers put up a three spot in the second inning taking a 5-3 lead, and after the Sox tied it again in the third the Rangers took over the rest of the way. The Sox threatend to score in the eighth, with two outs and the score 8-6 Texas, Tadahito Iguchi and Geoff Blum drew back to back walks but Scott Podsednik failed to keep the inning moving. 8-6 was how Game 1 ended, again, the Sox handed the Rangers a win. Garland fell to a record of 16-8, to add to the pain, Neal Cotts was taken out of the game which what looked to be a back problem. Somebody get this team a chiropractor.

Game 2: Sox 8 Texas 0

The night cap was a far different tale. The Sox tightend up on defense, continued to hit the ball, and got a dominating start by Brandon McCarthy. McCarthy turned in his best start in a White Sox uniform going 7 2/3 innings giving up two hits and not allowing any runs to cross the plate. The Sox bats backed McCarthy's pitching with plenty of runs to go around.

The Sox scored early and offen starting in the first inning. Scott Podsednik doubled and stole third base to start the game. Pods came home to make it a 1-0 Sox lead when Carl Everett hit a sac fly. Jermaine Dye made it a 3-0 Sox lead in the second inning when he hit a opposite field 2-run home run after Aaron Rowand got hit by a pitch. Podsednik led off the fifth inning with an infield single. Iguchi followed with a walk putting runners on first and second with no outs. Although Everett and Konerko failed to bring in a run, Aaron Rowand picked up the three and four hitters with a RBI single to score Podsednik. Jermaine Dye followed that with his own RBI single to make it a 5-0 Sox lead scoring Iguchi. Dye kept tearing the cover off the ball in the seventh inning. He hit another home run to right field, even deeper than his first, this time a three run shot making it 8-0 Sox.

That was more than enough offense for McCarthy, he picked up his first major league victory. Bobby Jenks came in with two outs in the eighth and finished the game up for the White Sox winner!

With the split, the Sox record goes to 80-50. Tomorrow, the Sox wrap up this series and roadtrip when Orlando Hernandez will make the start against Kameron Loe (6-4 3.75) for the Rangers. Game time is at 1:05pm and the game will be televised on Comcast Sports Net.

WSI's
Ozzieball Update:
Errors killed again in the first game, brillant pitching, timely hits take care of game 2.
