Red Sox Nation Wins...Again

August 13 vs. Boston Red Sox

"Konerko, Everett, Rowand, Dye."

Short Take: Jon Garland simply did not have it tonight, as our beloved Palehose dropped the middle game in the series to the Boston Red Sox.

After dropping the first game to the Boston Red Sox, our Palehose hoped to even the series, throwing yet another Cy Young candidate in Jon Garland on the mound. Garland has been nothing short of stellar all season long, completely defying odds, and was faced by Boston pitcher Tim Wakefield. 3 hours and 35 minutes determined if Garland would get his 17th win of the season.

Boston got on the scoreboard relatively early, and relatively often, as Roberto Petagine lead off the second inning with a home run. The next inning saw the Carmines put a big crooked number on the board. With Edgar Renteria on second and David Ortiz on first, Manny Ramirez singled in Renteria, and Petagine singled in Ortiz. Mueller later got Ramirez in with a sac fly. After just three innings of play, and roughly 75 pitches by Garland, Red Sox Nation already had a 4-0 lead over the White Sox Army.

In the sixth, the Carmines dented the scoreboard once again, as Renteria singled in Tony Graffanino, who lead off the inning with a double. After a 40-minute rain delay, the inning continued with no more runs scored. The Red Sox staked claim to a 5-0 lead at that time.

In the seventh inning, our beloved finally got on the scoreboard. Paul Konerko and Aaron Rowand hit back-to-back home runs to begin the frame, cutting the deficit to 5-2. In the botton of the same inning, those runs were given right back, as Graffanino doubled Bill Mueller, who had recorded a double of his own previously, home. Gabe Kapler singled in Graffanino, giving the Red Sox a comfortable 7-2 lead going to the final couple of innings.

Our very own Carl Everett walked in the eigth with a couple of outs. Konerko singled, advancing on a fielding error by Ramirez, which allowed Everett to score. Konerko was stranded as Rowand K'd to end the inning. Jermaine Dye lead off the nineth inning with a home run of his own, but that would complete the scoring for the evening, as the Red Sox once again handed our Palehose a road loss, this time to the tune of a 7-4 score.

Despite the loss, Konerko did hit his 200th career home run tonight! Congratulations, Paulie! We all love you! El Duque takes the mound tomorrow afternoon in hopes of salvaging the final game of the series. Gametime is 1:05 pm Chicago time and can be seen on Comcast Sports Net Chicago. Our Sox have yet to be swept on the road this year, and hopefully this won't change after all is said and done tomorrow.
