1st Inning Enough For Buehrle

August 6 vs Mariners

"Buehrle pitches over the lack of hitting, Podsednik steals two bags, Iguchi and Rowand each with a RBI, and Konerko with the 2-run HR."

Short Take:  Jamie Moyer was good, Mark Buehrle was better. Sox win 4-2 after a three run first inning to back Buehrle's effective outing.

Before the 12th sell out of the season, the Sox made four hits count for their 71st victory of the season. Mark Buerhle got into a jam in the first but ended up leaving runners on second and third base and the Sox offense went to work right away when they came up to bat in the first.

In what needs to be done for the Sox to play their game, Scott Podsednik reached base on a error by Adrian Beltre. Podsednik reached second base when Iguchi grounded out and then stole third base during Aaron Rowand's at bat. Rowand hit a bloop single to center field to score Podsednik to make it 1-0 Sox. Paul Konerko made it 3-0 when he hit a two run home run, his 26th of the year.

Buehrle shut the Mariners down 1-2-3 in the second, left a runner on second in the third, and 1-2-3 in the forth and fifth innings. He would give up a run in the sixth when Ichiro Suzuki singled and advanced to third on Willie Bloomquist's double. Ichiro scored on a Raul Ibanez ground out. Buehrle's outing for the night was seven innings giving up seven hits and giving up one run while striking out three. His record ups to 13-4.

After the Mariners added a run in the eighth, the Sox with two outs added an insurance run. Podsednik walked and stole his second bag of the night and scored on Tadahito Iguchi's single to make it 4-2 Sox.

Dustin Hermanson came on to pitch the ninth. He got a quick two outs, but walked Dave Hansen. Never fear Sox fans, Ichiro grounded out to end the game for a White Sox [home] win!

Jon Garland will try for his 16th win of the season tomorrow when he goes against Jeff Harris for the Mariners. Game time is at 2:05pm. Also note that tomorrow is the unveiling of the Carlton Fisk statue before the game.
