Throwing Stones At The Rockies

June 7 at Colorado

How many Grinders did KW use today:
6
"Contreras, Cotts, and Hermanson keep the Rockies with only one lone run. AJ & Dye take care the the runs. Konerko gets grinder status for getting hit #1,000."

Short Take:  Contreras turns in another fine outing and the Sox score just enough to take the 2-1 win over the Rockies.

In the most unlikey pitching duel of the season, Jose Contreras outdueled the Rockies Byung-Hyun Kim who came into tonights game with a ERA over 7.00 and a 0-4 record. The Sox were coming off a offensive beat down of the Rockies last night, the bats took a night off but Contreras and Neal Cotts held the game in order and Dustin Hermanson quickly ended the game in the ninth.

The Sox went up 2-0 in the forth inning. With one out, Paul Konerko connected for his 1,000 career hit for a double. He scored on Jermaine Dye's RBI single. Dye then stole second and scored when A.J. Pierzynski singled.

The Rockies did score in the bottom of the forth by taking a page out of the Sox book. Preston Wilson lead off with a single and advanced to second on a wild pitch by Contreras. Wilson advanced to third on a sac fly by Brad Hawpe. Wilson then made it 2-1 when Garrett Atkins doubled. With a man on second with two outs, Contreras pitched out of a small jam by intentionally walking Danny Ardoin and getting Rockies pitcher Byung-Hyun Kim to fly out.

Neal Cotts came in the seventh inning in yet another close game. Cotts continues to impress by pitching two scoreless and painless innings by striking out four and giving up no hits. Yes, that was Neal Cotts on the mound. Dustin Hermanson turned in his fourteenth save of the season in fourteen tries to nail down the victory for Contreras and the Sox.

Long ball, small ball, blowout, and low scoring affairs. The Sox can do it all can't they? At least so far. The Sox record ups to 39-19! Orlando Hernandez will try and help the Sox sweep the Rockies tomorrow. Jeff Francis goes for the Rockies and the game has a 8:05pm start time and can be seen on Comcast Sports Net.

WSI's
Ozzieball Update:
Joe Crede continutes to show that he should not be bunting, Jermaine Dye's stolen base lead to what would be a big run.
