Getting It Done

June 4 vs. Indians

How many Grinders did KW use today:

"1-9 in the lineup contributed, Podsednik went 0-3, but with a RBI sac fly, Garland, Marte, and Hermanson let the Indians get close, but not too close."

Short Take:  Sox rain down 10 hits and 6 runs for Jon Garland as he picks up his ninth win of the season!

It's always a battle isn't Sox fans. Well at least this week it has been. Monday and Tuesday were won in the last at bat, Wednesday the Sox put the winning run on in the 9th, and yesterday a early 4-run lead went away but the offense kept the Sox out of the loss. Today, just when you thought the Sox were going to run away, the Indians would make the game a bit closer, and in the 9th, Scott Podsednik couldn't see the final out which lead to a run. But never fear, Dustin Hermanson got the save for another one - run victory for the Sox. They win 6-5 and continue to dominate the AL Central with a record of 20-4.

Jon Garland took the mound for the Sox looking to pick up his ninth win of the 2005 season. He would get that win, but it didn't start pretty. He gave up a run in the Indians half of the first. But the Sox came right back when they came up in their half. With two outs and after back to back singles by Tadahito Iguchi and Frank Thomas, Aaron Rowand hit a 2-run double that when in and out of the glove of Indians right fielder Jody Gerut to put the Sox up 2-1. In the second inning. Juan Uribe doubled and advanced to third when Joe Crede grounded out, Uribe scored on Scott Podsednik's sac fly that made it 3-1 Sox.

Jon Garland got into a little trouble in the fifth. Jhonny Peralta and Aaron Boone hit back to back singles and then Grady Sizemore singled in Peralta to make it 3-2 Sox. He would leave Boone at third base by striking out Coco Crisp and getting Travis Hafner to ground into a double play to end the threat.

The Sox answered in the fifth and sixth after the Indians scored. Paul Konerko hit a solo home run in the fifth to make it a 4-2 Sox lead, and, after the Indians made it 4-3 in the sixth, Joe Crede launched a 2-run homer to put the Sox up 6-3.

After Grady Sizemore doubled with one out in the seventh, Ozzie pulled Jon Garland to make way for Damaso Marte. He gave up one run in the seventh, but got the third out and pitched a 1-2-3 eigth inning.

The ninth inning proved to be interesting yet again. Dustin Hermanson came in and quickly got two outs before getting Grady Sizemore to hit a pop up to Podsednik. The problem was that no amount of black under Scotty's eyes would be able to help him to see the ball. The ball landed behind him which alowed Sizemore to move into third base and score after Coco Crisp doubled over the dead of Paul Konerko. All's well that ends well though. Travis Hafner grounded out to end the game and allowing Hermanson to pick up his thirteenth save of the season and a 6-5 White Sox win!

The Sox jump to a pretty 37-18 record and will look to Mark Buehrle to outduel C.C. Sabathia tomorrow afternoon at The Cell. Gametime is at 2:05 and it will be seen on WGN.

WSI's
Ozzieball Update:
Sac fly by Podsednik, stacking hits in the 1st inning led to runs, and Konerko and Crede doin' it with the long ball.
