WSI News - Totally Biased Game Recaps

Dome tour ends with a W!

May 11 at Tampa Bay

How many Grinders did KW use today:
6
"Konerko and Dye with 2-out RBI's, Rowand with a RBI sac fly, Ozuna continues to impress when he plays, and Iguchi steals 2 bases. "El Duque" also with another fine outing."

Short Take:  Sox end their 6-game road trip with a 5-2 win over the D-Rays.

Thank you Orlando Hernandez, Sox fans can now forget about the last two nights in Tampa Bay and move on after today's 5-2 victory over the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. The past two games against the Devil Rays were not fun to watch, but the Sox came out and played today and had some timely hits to back "El Duque" to end their road trip with a 4-2 mark.

The Sox drew first blood to extend their "games with the lead streak" to 34 games with a sac fly by Aaron Rowand that scored Pablo Ozuna. The Devil Rays got that run back in their half of the 3rd, Alex Sanchez hit a RBI double that scored Alex Gonzalez to tie the game 1-1.

The Sox put up a big number on the board in the 5th inning, with one out, Pablo Ozuna singled and went to second base when Timo Perez walked. Tadahito Iguchi flew out and Ozuna advanced to third. Aaron Rowand then walked which loaded the bases for Paul Konerko. The baseball gods smiled on the two Sox hitters who are in a huge funk today... Paul Konerko doubled two runs, and Jermain Dye hit a RBI single next to score Konerko. The Sox scored four runs in their half of the 5th to take the 5-1 lead.

Hernandez got into a bit of trouble in the 7th inning. After he loaded the bases on a base hit and two walks, Cliff Politte came in and only gave up one run which was on a sac fly by Alex Gonzalez to make it 5-2 Sox lead. But, with trouble still brewing, he struck out Alex Sanchez to get out of trouble and keeping Sox fans out of the hospital.

Sox fans wouldn't see this one slip away, Dustin Hermanson picked up his 6th save and Orlando Hernandez uped his record to 5-1 by going 6 1/3 innings, giving up three hits, and giving up two earned runs.

As much as this win was needed, this weekend will prove to be a nice test for our Sox. The Sox will come home for tomorrow nights first of four games with the Baltimore Orioles. Jon Garland (6-0 2.42ERA) will face off against Bruce Chen (4-1 3.12ERA) game time is at 7:05pm and it will be televised on WGN. Sorry Sox fans, if you hadn't heard, Sammy will not be making a appearance in right field this weekend for the O's.
