WSI News - Totally Biased Game Recaps

Whatever it takes

May 5 vs. Royals

How many Grinders did KW use today:

"Pierzynski and Podsednik with the teams only hits, Uribe and Podsednik walked to score the winning runs. Contreras pitches a gem."

Short Take:  Two hits...no problem. Sox find a way to sweep the Royals with a 2-1 win!

Nobody said moving to a MLB best 21-7 would be easy or pretty right? The Sox keep finding ways to win games. Pitching, timely hitting, defense, or even taking advantage of bad teams bad pitching has won games for the Sox. The Sox are doing what they haven't done for the past few years...beat up on teams that they should. Enter the Royals at the Cell this week. The Sox have won all six games against the Royals in 2005, but they all haven't come easy. But, that's what seperate's the 2005 Sox from the past year's teams.

Thursday's final game with the Royals in this three game series is a perfect example of the Sox "doing what they have to do to win." Behind the steller pitching preformance from Jose Contreras, the Sox sweapt the Royals with a final score of 2-1.

You would've never thought there would be a pitching duel with the Royals, but Zack Grinke held the Sox scoreless while Jose Contreras was doing the same to the Royals. But, the Royals drew first blood in the 7th inning. Ex-Sox utility man Tony Graffanino hit a home run to put the Royals up 1-0.

The Sox came back in the 8th. Walks, hit by pitches, and timely sacrifices worked the Sox way and they walked to a victory. With the bases loaded, Juan Uribe walked on four pitches to tie the game 1-1. The next batter, Scott Podsednik walked to score Jermaine Dye to make it 2-1. With the bases still loaded, the hottest Sox hitter Tadahito Iguchi came up but stuck out to end the inning.

That proved to be all what the Sox needed, Shingo came in and pitched a nervous ninth by walking Mike Sweeney and Matt Stairs. To make things more interesting, he threw a wild pitch that advanced the runners. But, Terrence Long flied out to end the game and giving Shingo his eigth save, and Jose Contreras his first win of the 2005 season.

The most amazing thing about today's game was the fact that the Sox only had two hits, and those hits didn't even lead to runs. That says something about the Royals now doesn't it?

The Sox travel over the border to Toronto to face the Blue Jays on Friday. The Sox will bring their MLB best 21-7 record, and five game winning streak with orlando Hernandez (3-1) against the Jay's David Bush. (0-3) First pitch is at 6:07pm...I guess thats a Canadian thing.

WSI's
Ozzieball Update:
Two hits don't even lead to runs, but thats ok, the Royals didn't want this one anyway.
