WSI News - Totally Biased Game Recaps

Keeping it going in KC!

April 23 at Kansas City

How many Grinders did KW use today:

"Podsednik creates the first inning run, Uribe with a RBI, Crede keeps hitting, AJ saves the game in the 9th, wins it with smart base running in the tenth, Rowand comes through, and bullpen's Politte and Cotts doesn't let KC back into the game."

Short Take:  Sox use extra innings to win 6th straight!

Baseball's best team went out tonight looking for their sixth win a row, and Jose Contreras took the mound hoping to give the Pale Hose their 6th in a row and their best start in franchise history!

The Sox got on the board in the 1st. Scott Podsednik lead off with an infield single. Tadahito Iguchi reached base on catcher interference. Zach Greinke balked to advance Podsednik and Iguchi. With two men in scoring position and no outs, Sox fans hoped to see a big inning off the Royals "savior." But we'd have to settle for one. Carl Everett grounded out and Podsednik scored to make it 1-0 Sox.

The lead wouldn't last. Jose Contreras served up a home run to David DeJesus to tie the game. But, our Sox came right back in their half of the 2nd inning. A.J. Pierzynski lead off and was hit by a pitch, Juan Uribe came up and smacked a double that scored A.J. and the Sox took the 2-1 lead.

The only mistake Jose Contreras made was the pitch to DeJesus. Contreras was pitching how Sox fans have been waiting for him to, but in the bottom of the 4th inning Contreras would limp back to the mound after getting Mike Sweeney to ground out. Ozzie let Jose pitch after a little conference. The next Royals batter was Matt Stairs and he was hit by a pitch which made Guillen come right out of the dugout to pull Contreras. Good thing too becuase it was reported later that Jose Contreras has suffered a strained lower right hamstring. There is no word on how long Contreras will be out.

Cliff Politte came in to replace Contreras and went 1 2/3 innings blanking the Royals. Neal Cotts also went 1 2/3 innings to hold the Royals with one run.

Just when you thought this one was wrapped up and shipped to the win column fast forward to the bottom of the 8th. With Luis Vizcaino in, the inning started off with a Tony Graffanino ground out. Terrence Long then doubled and advanced to third when Ruben Gotay grounded out. But, Sox killer Mike Sweeney singled and the game was tied 2-2.

But all the Sox wanted was a little fun. The Royals half of the ninth induced heart attacks of all Sox fans watching. With 1 out, the bases went loaded, and Eli Marrero came in to pinch hit. On a passed ball, Matt Diaz who was standing on third, tried to score the game winning run, but A.J. would recover the ball quickly and threw to Marte and Diaz would slide right into the out! That was out #2, Marte now had to deal with men on second and third with two outs. No problem. Marrero would strike out ending the Royals threat and their game.

Onto extra innings they went. Jermaine Dye singled and was out at second when A.J. seemed to ground into an inning ending double play, but the ball was bobbled by Gotay and A.J. reached safely at 1st. Juan Uribe then singled and A.J. (who saved the game the last inning) would get smart and take that extra base and reached third. Aaron Rowand singled him in and the Sox took the 3-2 lead!

Marte didn't mess around and pitched a 1-2-3 Royals 10th for the White Sox winner! The Sox record goes to a FRANCHISE BEST 14-4 to start the season. Joe Crede also extended his hitting streak to 14 games with two singles.

Tomorrow, the Sox wrap up this series against the Royals at 1:10pm when Orlando "El Duque" Hernandez takes his 2-1 record against the Royals Denny Bautista. (1-1 6.48ERA) The game will be televised on Comcast Sports Net.

WSI's
Ozzieball Update:
AJ taking the extra base in extra innings wins the game! But, 12 men left on base, thats not good fellas.
