WSI News - Totally Biased Game Recaps

Cold and bitter

April 14 at Cleveland

"Maybe it was the 47 degree game time temp, Everett, Konerko, and Harris with RBI's and Willie had a stolen base."

Short Take:  Sox try for the sweep and again come up empty as they lose 8-6.

Third times the charm right? Nope. The Sox tried for their first sweep of 2005 again tonight but couldn't keep up with the Indians and they lose 8-6 but still pick up the series win. Orlando "El Duque" Hernandez had a rough 1st inning giving up 4 runs after the Sox gave him a 1-0 lead to work with. Coco Crisp lead off the Indians 1st inning with a single. Alex Cora was next up and flew out to center. Travis Hafner batted next and reached on a error by Juan Uribe, Victor Martinez came up and singled to score Crisp to make it a tie game. "Big" Ben Broussard then tripled to score Hafner and Martinez and the Indians went up 3-1. Aaron Boone batted next and Broussard scored on a sac fly to right which made it a 4-1 Indians lead.

The Sox tied the game in the 3rd, Willie Harris and Timo Perez walked and Paul Konerko homered to tie the game. The Sox took a 5-4 lead in the 4th when Juan Uribe doubled and scored on Willie Harris's RBI single to center.

But, back and forth they went. The Indians wouldn't quit and wanted give the freezing fans something to cheer about. In the 5th inning Victor Marinez homered to right to tie the game. Jhonny Peralta lead off the 6th inning with a walk and that was it for Hernandez. He would leave the game to make way for Neal Cotts. You know what that means Sox fans...Cotts walked the next batter Coco Crisp and Alex Cora singled which scored Peralta and Crisp moved to third. Travis Hafner batted next and came up with the big hit for the Indians. Hafner hit his forth double of the season which scored Crisp and Cora. After the hits and walks, Neal Cotts finally got the memo that you have to throw the ball in the strike zone. Victor Martinez and Ben Broussard stuck out and Aaron Boone grounded out, but it was three outs too late. The Indians had taken a 8-5 lead.

The Sox had a oppertunity in the 8th inning with two outs. Joe Crede singled and Juan Uribe doubled. Pablo Ozuna reached safely at first when Broussard couldn't find the bag. That scored Crede to make it 8-6 but thats all the Sox could come up with.

There were no Indian meltdowns tonight as they win it 8-6 to avoid being sweapt. Carl Everett started today's game but left after the 1st inning when he tired to field Broussard's triple. He appeared to slam his left shoulder in the wall. He left the game and Timo Perez replaced him.

The Sox (6-3) will return home tomorrow to face the Seattle Mariners. (5-4) Jon Garland (1-0 4.50ERA) will start and face off against the Mariners Joel Pineiro. (0-0) The weather is supposed to be nice this weekend, tomorrows game has a 7:05 start so come out and support your first place Pale Hose!

WSI's
Ozzieball Update:
Carl Everett with a sac fly, Uribe with a couple of doubles, but nine Sox were left on base.
