"Spent the day looking through the standings contemplating what winning team he'd like to play for next year."

Short Take:  No hitting, bad defense adds up to ANOTHER loss.

Another day, another pathetic effort by the White Sox. As if Tuesday’s beating wasn’t enough, on Wednesday the Sox thanked the Twins, bent over again, and asked for another. What better way to follow up a 5 hit, 10-2 loss, than with a 5 hit 6-1 loss. Looking at it from the bright side of things though, at least the Sox weren’t no hit. Carlos Silva started the game for the Twins and shut down Sox hitters. That was until the Sox finally managed to knock Silva out of the game by hitting him hard…literally. Meanwhile Mark Buehrle pitched well but received little support from his defense. In the end the Sox lost 6-1 in another lackluster game.

The first few innings mirrored each other for both teams. Both teams went 1-2-3 in the 1st inning and both teams had walks in front of double plays in the 2nd inning. The first hit of the game was recorded in the 3rd inning. With 2 outs in the 3rd inning, Timo Perez laid down a bunt and beat it out for the hit. That was the last hit the Sox would see for quite a while. Meanwhile, the Sox went to work blowing the game. Mark Buehrle flew through the first 3 innings, but the 4th inning was agonizing. Buehrle recorded 2 quick outs in the inning to hold his then no-hitter. But with 2 outs Joe Crede threw a ball away allowing Justin Morneau to reach 1st base. 3 consecutive hits later and the Twins had scored 2 runs. But Crede wasn’t done giving the Twins second chances. The next batter grounded to Crede and he once again threw the ball away allowing the 3rd run to score. Buehrle got the final out himself with a grounder back to the mound. The 4th inning allowed the Twins another scoring opportunity. With one out, a single and two doubles plated 2 more runs for the Twins and gave them a 5-0 lead. That looked like plenty for the Twins…and it was.

The Sox finally got to Carlos Silva in the 6th inning. That was when they hit him hard, and I do mean hit him hard. Joe Crede smashed a grounder back to the mound which ricocheted off Silva’s right leg. Silva had to leave the game on what was unfortunately the hardest hit ball the Sox had all night. In the 8th inning the Sox finally did the impossible. They recorded another hit. Yeah it only took 4 innings but better late than never, right? Perhaps the most surprising thing about Juan Uribe’s leadoff single was that he actually scored! Of course when Jose Valentin followed up Uribe’s single with his own, you knew things were going too good. Sure enough, Jamie Burke grounded into a double play to end any thoughts of some sudden comeback. Uribe moved to 3rd and scored on Joe Crede’s infield single. The Twins added one more in their half of the 8th inning to win by a final of 6-1.

The Sox finish off the series and try not to get swept when Jon Garland takes the bump and faces off against Kyle Lohse. The game is scheduled to start at 7:10 CDT.

Ozzieball Update:
