Short Take:  More bad baseball in every aspect of the game. When will it end?

Friday night was Elvis Night at U.S. Cellular Field. And that was about the only highlight to be seen. The White Sox once again gave a lackluster performance in a big game. From the offense to the defense to the pitching, not one aspect of the Sox looked sharp on Friday. The result was a 10-1 loss in which the Sox recorded just 5 hits. Meanwhile Mark Buehrle allowed 7 earned runs over just 6 innings.

While Buehrle may not have pitched too well, his defense certainly didnít help him. The game started off on the wrong foot when the first hitter of the game, Johnny Damon, reached on a Jose Valentin error. A walk and a hit later, the bases were loaded with no outs for David Ortiz. Buehrle induced a double play, but one run scored on the play. The next batter singled and the Sox were down 2-0 before taking a swing. In the 2nd inning the BoSox blew the game open. The inning started similar to the first inning as Bill Mueller reached base without the ball leaving the infield. Two hits later the bases were loaded for Manny Ramirez. Ramirez blasted a Grand Slam to left field to give the Other Sox a 6-0 lead. Buehrle did not receive much help from his defense due to some misplayed balls. But Buehrle didnít blame his defense. He accepted the fact that he still had a chance to pitch around those misplays and not allow runs to score. Thatís why Buehrle put the blame for the loss on his shoulders. Perhaps Judy Garland can take a lesson from his teammate who is not only a much better pitcher, but much better at handling himself after taking a loss.

The Sox offense wasnít exactly stellar either. While it is to be expected that a team might struggle against a pitcher as great as Curt Schilling, the Sox offense looked anemic. The Sox produced just 5 hits on the night and only 1 run. That run came in the bottom of the 8th inning when the game was more than decided. Aaron Rowand hit a 1 out double to put himself in scoring position. After a Ben Davis walk, Joe Crede singled to score Rowand and avoid being shutout. A line drive double play ended the inning and kept the Sox from scoring a second run. Aside from Rowand and Crede, the other Sox players to record hits on the night were Carlos Lee, Paul Konerko, and Carl Everett. No player had more than 1 hit however. Lee was thrown out by Gabe Kapler in the 1st inning while trying to go to 2nd base on his hit. Cliff Politte pitched two scoreless innings in relief of Buehrle, allowing no runners and striking out 2. Neal Cotts pitched the 9th inning and allowed 1 run to score.

The two Sox will face off again on Saturday afternoon. Josh Stewart will make his first start of the year and face Bronson Arroyo. The game is scheduled to start at 12:15 CDT.

WSI's
Ozzieball Update:
One final game of HaroldBall and it wasn't pretty. Only 5 hits in a 10-1 beatdown. Hopefully the return of Ozzie means the return of winning baseball. Sox fans can only hope.
