WSI News - Totally Biased Game Recaps

Dino-Might!

July 19th at Texas

Today's Free Agency Value:
$10,750,000
"1-5 today though the rest of the offense picked him up. Soon, he'll have to pick everyone else up."

Short Take:  The offense comes back to life and Schoeneweis keeps the Rangers offense under control.

When the White Sox re-acquired Carl Everett on Sunday, there were few people who could have been happier than Carl Everett himself. Rescued from the pits of the Montreal Expos, Everett joined a first place club on Monday when the Sox traveled into Texas. In Montreal, Everett was plagued by injuries and managed to hit just 2 home runs in 39 games. But Monday was a new start for Everett and he wasted no time in proving to his old teammates that he can still play, while providing the Sox with some extra offense. Meanwhile Scott Schoeneweis took to the mound for the Sox to face off against the highest scoring offense in baseball. The Rangers countered with Joaquin Benoit who entered the game with an ERA over 6. The Sox brought out the lumber for this game in out slugging the Rangers in a 12-6 victory.

In typical winning White Sox baseball fashion, the Sox put runs on the board early in this game. Jose Valentin started things off with a 1 out base hit in the 1st inning and Magglio Ordonez followed up with another hit. With Carlos Lee at the plate, the runners advanced on a wild pitch and a bad throw by Rangers catcher Rod Barajas sailed into center. That allowed Valentin to score but Ordonez, who slipped rounding second, was thrown out going for 3rd. Lee would make up for that though by belting a solo home run to left field to give the Sox the 2-0 lead. The Sox added another run in the 2nd inning when Aaron Rowand led off with a single. In fact, the Sox scored at least one run in the first 5 innings. No inning resulted in more runs for the Sox than the 3rd inning though.

The 3rd inning started with a quick groundout by Carlos Lee but the next 6 batters reached base. Carl Everett and Paul Konerko took 1 out walks ahead of another Aaron Rowand single. With the bases loaded Joe Crede took one for the team which forced in the first run of the inning. Sandy Alomar Jr. and Willie Harris followed up with walks to force in 2 more runs. Finally, Jose Valentin grounded out to 1st to bring in the 4th run of the inning. The Sox gave one back on a solo homer in the bottom of the 3rd, but Everett got that run back with his first homer as a White Sox in the 4th inning. A leadoff hit by Harris in the 5th and an error which allowed Maggs to reach base led to two more runs for the Pale Hose.

Meanwhile Schoeneweis cruised through the highest scoring offense in baseball, allowing only 1 run through 5 innings. But in the 6th inning, Schoeneweis allowed a couple base runners before making way for Mike Jackson. Jackson, as usual, found a way to allow a few more runs to score. Schoeneweis finished going a solid 5 innings allowing 4 runs on 5 hits while striking out 3. The Sox tacked up 2 more runs in the 8th before Jon Adkins gave a few back in the 9th inning. Adkins allowed back-to-back homers in the 9th, but finished off the game to give the Sox a 12-6 win.

The Sox finish off this quick 2 game series in Texas tomorrow night at 7:05 CDT before heading off to Cleveland. Jon Garland throws for the Sox against John Wasdin for the Rangers.

WSI's
Ozzieball Update:
Willie Harris leads off and reaches base 5 times. Aaron Rowand drops to the 7th spot and collects 4 hits. Everything clicked offensively for the Sox in this game as every starter had at least 1 hit.
