Sunday Ugly Sunday!

September 21st Vs Kansas City

Today's temperature:

"Jerry brings out the Sunday afternoon special and the Sox stumble yet again. The end of the tunnel is in sight, and it looks like Jerry's walking papers are ready and waiting."

Short Take: Behold the smell at the Cell

Two weeks ago, everything was hunky-dory for the White Sox. Perched atop the AL Central, the Sox were playing intense baseball and putting up monstrous offensive barrages. Two weeks ago, the pesky Kansas City Royals looked like they were finally ready to assume their rightful spot further down the ranks of the division. Royals motor into town playing like a team that's still in contention against a Sox team that looks ready to hang it up and walk away with the series after a 10-4 pasting at US Cellular.

Jon Garland toed the rubber for the Sox today and looked like the Jon Garland we saw in the spring series against the Royals. Jon lasts just 2 2/3 innings and gets tagged for 7 runs. Hell, he gave up 4 runs before the Sox even had a chance to bat...letting the always annoying Mike Sweeney and Smilin' Joe Randa to peck peck peck away with singles. A Raul Ibanez double in the 3rd to bring home Sweeney (on base yet again) followed by a Rondell White homerun is enough to send Jon to the showers. Scott Schoenweis and Jon Adkins work relief and keep the damage to only 3 more runs over 6 innings. Get used to Adkins, folks, he may be next year's #2 starter if the dreaded season-ending fire sale takes place.

The Sox send 13 different players to the plate tonight, and guess what? All of them can't hit. Not entirely true actually--Aaron Rowand contributes 3 RBI including the first home run he's hit since June (slight exaggeration, but it sure feels that way)and Tony Graffanino scores 2 runs, tallying 2 hits. Almost makes up for his 2 errors in the field today. Jamie Burke, Willie Harris and Armando Rios make cameo appearances in today's episode of "As The Sox Suck."

The now-tied-for-second Sox duke it out with the Yankees tomorrow night. Can we play them as well as we did in the Bronx last month? The battling fatties take the mound, with Bartolo Colon going against David Wells.
