Fire Jerry Manuel!

June 15th Vs. San Diego

"Fun-Da-Men-Tals? I am not familiar with this word. What does it mean?"

Short Take:  Broom? We don't need no stinking broom...

There comes a time in every fans life when they have to ask the question, "What is wrong with my team this year?" It is now official. Sox fans can wonder no longer. The answer is as plain as the nose on Hawk's face. The problem is Jerry Manuel. How can it not be? This team doesn't play good defense. They don't have timely hitting. They run the bases like chickens without heads. They can't even lay down a bunt. When your team has the bad team cycle working for it like that, there has to be someone accountable. That person is Jerry Manuel. Defending his constant tinkering is one thing, but he isn't even consistent with that aspect of his job. Jimenez hits for Valentin last night against a LH reliever and then rides the pine today against a LH starter. Frank is on fire since being put at first, so of course, he needs a day off. The Bullpen has no defined roles and Jerry is constantly overusing and then under using pitchers. Manuel has to go if this team is ever going to move forward.

You want a game recap? Here it is in a nutshell. Jon Garland was the MAN! He pitched 8 innings gave up 1 run on 3 hits and 4 walks while striking out 4. He threw 116 pitches and continues to look like he is putting it together on the mound like Sox fans have been waiting for. The offense on the other hand seemed clueless against Oliver Perez, who came into the game sporting a nifty 8.23 ERA and hadn't pitched since April 30th. Never worry, Padre fans, the Sox used an assortment of bad baserunning, lack of timely hitting, lack of situational hitting and finally a raging inability to lay down a bunt to ensure this AAA reject would pick up a win and lower his ERA by almost 2 full runs. Rehashing what went wrong would be ridiculous, but the key problems were the Sox going back to their fence swinging ways and a failure to twice get leadoff doubles home. The second time was the worst as Aaron Rowand failed to get to third on a fly ball where Mark Kotsay fell down in deep left-centerfield while making the catch. For some inexplicable reason, Rowand thought it would be a good idea to jog 10 steps off of second just as the ball was being caught. Of course by the time he made it back to the bag, it was far too late to advance to third. Rowand also popped up a bunt in the ninth with the tying run at first and no one out. What exactly does this team do in spring training? Play poker in the locker room and wait for the games to start? There were plenty of goats in this game, but the main one again was Jerry Manuel who failed dramatically in his use of the bench and bullpen for what feels like the 100th time this season alone. I don't know if anyone aside from him understands his reasoning process.

BoSox come to town tomorrow and who knows what Jerry will have planned for the team. I would bet dollars to donuts they don't either...

WSI's
Tinkerer Update:
Frank at DH, Valentin starting against a lefty, Jimenez on the bench, Konerko back in the field, no pinch hitters until the ninth and then everybody gets a swing. Hey Jerry, this isn't little league not everyone has to play.
