WSI News - Totally Biased Game Recaps

Going the Distance!

May 20th vs Toronto

Today's temperature:
"Bartolo throwing a complete game leaves no chance to make a bad bullpen move!"

Short Take:  Bartolo proves it all night!

  • Much like the Chicago weather, the Chicago White Sox are subject to change at any minute. Last night's hapless Sox were replaced by today's solid Sox and the result was far better. Sox beat the Jays 4-1 and even the series at a game each.
  • Chalk up one, two, three solid starts in a row for Bartolo Colon. Looks like he's shaking off whatever that early season funk was on his way to becoming the ace we expected. Big Bad Bart pitches a complete game gem, scattering 9 hits and 2 walks while striking out 6. It's starting to look like he's relying on the heat once again, and that hopefully means good times ahead as his record improves to 5-3.
  • Before we get to the Sox offense positives, we'll have to start with the negatives; the team still isn't hitting. Our offense only managed 8 hits all night, and all 4 runs we scored were unearned. Take what you can get, I guess.
  • Is Paul Konerko emerging from his slump, or did he just have an exceptionally good night tonight? Konerko goes 2 for 4 with 2 RBI. Sure, the first one came when he hit Doug davis in the back of the leg with a grounder..but at least he's making contact. Miguel Olivo also tallies 2 hits on the night, and Frank Thomas snaps out of his 1 for 16 slump with a hard RBI double.
  • Carlos Lee's patience at the plate paid off tonight and deserves mention. The Smilin' Panamanian took a pair of walks, the first one coming with the bases in the 3rd to open the Sox scoring. Carlos also made a dazzling catch in the 5th that shut down the Jays' attempt at a rally.
  • Rubber match tomorrow. Mark Buehrle takes the hill, looking to break a streak that's nothing short of terrible.

Tinkerer Update:
Maggs back in RF, Rios in CF, Graffy at 2nd.

Carlos Lee

Great catch to end the threat in the 5th, and great eye at the plate.
