Minnesota Mauling!

May 16th at Minnesota

Today's temperature:
95
"Thank god for the AC in the HumpDome, because that chair is smoldering after tonight!"

Short Take:  Tagged and bagged in the Dome!

  • Disgusting. Rotten. And most of all, humilating. Those are the first 3 adjectives that come to mind when talking about tonight's Sox/Twins tilt in the Metrodome. Sox jump to a 2-0 lead and then COMPLETELY implode, falling 18-3. The Bears showed better defense the last time they played in this forsaken stadium than the 'Hose did tonight.
  • Hey, how about that can't miss kid, Mark Buehrle? At this rate, I wouldn't be surprised if he LOSES 19 games this year as his record drops to 2-7. He's making Todd Ritchie look like Cy Young with his abyssmal performances this season. The screwy kid from St Looie gives up 10 runs on 10 hits, and strikes out NONE. But at least he only walked 2 tonight as opposed to 6 in his last outing. Maybe he and Jon Garland can be buddies on the bus in Charlotte. Enough of this crud about how he's a gamer, he's starting to look like a flash in the pan. All the zip and dance is gone from his pitches, and if he's hurt, he should fess up.
  • Sox pitching tonight serves up 4 home runs in all tonight. In addition to Buehrle's sad sack outing, we were also treated to abyssmal efforts by Rick White, who is pretty much begging to be released, Gary Glover, and David Sanders.
  • Sox defense looked atrocious tonight too. Carlos Lee showed shades of 2001, dropping a fly ball. Believe it or not, it was his first E of the year. Joe Crede committs an error and gets caught napping waiting for a bunt to roll foul. Brian Daubach showed all the range of a fire hydrant at 1st base tonight. And worse of all, the one stellar play we did see from Willie Harris diving in CF resulted in a shoulder injury from falling on the green painted concrete that makes up the Metrodome's "field."
  • After 2 good nights, the Sox offense returned to its coffins tonight. The Sox manage just 9 hits (the Twinks pounded out 20), with only Sandy Alomar and Carlos Lee getting 2 hits on the night. I'm still baffled why the Sox are playing Joe Crede every day. Is this guy ever going to develop? Can't hit, can't field.
  • Sox and Twinks square off once again tomorrow. The Sox trot Jon Garland out to the hill to face Joe Mays. Your humble correspondent will be jumping on a plane tomorrow am and witnessing the carnage in person.

WSI's
Tinkerer Update:
Daubach at first to start, Graffy, Konerko and Rios all get to see some action in garbage time.
