WSI News - Totally Biased Game Recaps

Scrappy Sox squeeze it out!

May 11th at Seattle

Today's temperature:
85
"West Coast Win? That's enough to cool the seat off for another 24 hours."

Short Take:  Colon throws hard, Sox follow suit

  • Hey Sox fans! West Coast wins are few and far between...we'll take this one! Sox outlast Seattle 4-3 at Safeco Field.
  • Just when you thought it was safe to lump Bartolo Colon in the David Wells/Todd Ritchie bad trade pile, El Rotundo bounces back and pitches 8+ solid innings. The big man scatters 6 hits and 3 runs over the course of the outing--and most impressively stays in the game after trailing 3-0. Maybe Jerry "The Tinkerer" Manuel finally realized that once in a while it's safe to let a guy run up the pitch count early and settle down.
  • The Sox hung tough the whole game and fought back from a 3 run deficit. Great to see that at least for one game, corpseball is no longer the modus operandi for this team on its West Coast jaunts.
  • After being benched last night, Carlos Lee returned to the lineup with a bang tonight. The happy Panamanian blasted a solo shot which put the Sox on the board and also scored the game winning run.
  • D'Angelo Jiminez also emerged from his mini-slump turning in a 2 for 4 performance tonight even after being dropped to second in the batting order. D'Ang showed some grit in the field with a diving play which appeared to hurt his wrist but stayed in the game.
  • Damaso Marte made his pitch for the closer's job tonight. Marte came on with a runner on and closed out the game...hope Billy Koch was paying attention.
  • Sox close out the West Coast swing with a matinee against the M's tomorrow afternoon. Believe it or not, a win tomorrow makes us 3-3 through the toughest part of our schedule. Sure would be sweet, as the next couple weeks promise to be a lot easier.

WSI's
Tinkerer Update:
Rios at DH, Daubach at 1st. Thank God C Lee's back in the fold.
