Colon again!

April 18th vs Cleveland

Today's temperature:
72
"Jerry looks like a genius again, leaving Bartolo in the game to finish. Now they just need the Royals to stop playing the Tigers and everything will be great!"

Short Take: Good Friday Proves Great for Sox!

  • It may not have been sexy or overly exciting, but the Sox skated out of a frigid US Cellular Field with a 5-3 win over the Cleveland Indians. A less than overpowering but still somewhat solid Bartolo Colon goes the distance and picks up his 2nd win of the short season.
  • Cleveland pitchers did everything they could to add fuel to the Sox fire, pitching up and in or behind the batter's back whenever possible. Frank Thomas gets plunked in the back at one point, sending the Sox bench into a near tizzy. Guess it's too cold to charge the hill.
  • The pivotal moment of the game came on a weak squib back to the hill from Magglio Ordonez. Cleveland schleprock reliever Jose Santiago knocked it down and then fell asleep deciding where to throw, overthrowing 1st base and allowing D'Angelo Jiminez to score the goahead run.
  • The aforementioned Jiminez continues to tear it up and live up to the hype surrounding him 3 years ago, contributing a triple, double, stolen base and 2 runs scored. This guy is clearly one of the Sox rising stars and it's time for the baseball world to wake up and start talking about him.
  • Carlos Lee looks like he's finally coming out of his slump. Another HR tonight as well as a walk (seems like his 1st one this year) show he may be getting patient at the plate. Maybe this new energy will spread to his bookends in the lineup-Paul Konerko and Joe Crede-who are still spotty at best even after Crede's hot start.
  • 2 milestones reached tonight--Frank Thomas is now the all time White Sox leader in walks. His second walk of the game was enough to put him past Luke Appling on the all time list. Magglio Ordonez extends his hitting streak to 14 games.
  • The Sox and 'Toons duke it out once again at US Cellular Field tomorrow. Twinkies are trailing the Yanks at press time, so we may be able to put them further behind in our rear view mirror.

WSI's
Tinkerer Update:
The Tinkerer brings out the "standard" lineup today, but Aaron Rowand goes 0-4 again. PLEASE get him out of the lineup.
