Pre-Game Report

Short Take:  Sox sweep Tigers.  What took so long?

In a sea of mediocre performances, sprinkled with truly horrendous ones that would never qualify as major league, Mark Buehrle has been a rock of near-perfect consistency and excellence.  Why is he pitching for the White Sox?  He works cheap, of course.

Buehrle nails win #17 with a complete game shutout and the Sox roll over Detroit for the sweep, 7-0 the final.

Buehrle was in command from the very start.  He scattered seven hits, striking out four and walking NOBODY.  He did the whole thing with just 117 pitches, so not even Jerry "The Tinkerer" Manuel threatened to pull him with a high pitch count.

As usual, the Sox offense provided plenty of offense for Buehrle.  Unlike the rest of Kenny Williams' Kut-Rate Rotation, they seem to swing easy whenever a truly competent pitcher is on the bump for our Sox.  Aaron Rowand, Frank Thomas, and the streaking Joe Crede each had three hits.

The Sox scored one run in the second, two more single runs in the fifth and sixth, then iced it away with three in the seventh.  Not a bad performance, considering that #4 hitter Magglio Ordonez stayed in his slump with another 0 for 5 performance.

Holy Cow!  The Sox stole a base!  Josh Paul is doing what he can to demonstrate the genius of Williams' and the Tinkerer's love for versatility.  Why are we sure Gary Pettis's job is already assured for next year?

The A.L. Central is a cesspool of mediocrity.  The Sox finally fatten up and find themselves just four games under .500.  Mediocrity, thy name is White Sox!

On to Toronto!  Woo hoo!

Tinkerer Update:
Jimenez at SHORTSTOP and leading off, Harris at second.  Valentin sits.

Mark Buehrle

A complete game shutout to win #17.  Seven hits, four strikeouts, and no walks.  The Sox reduced their 2002 offer to him, just to teach him a lesson about who has negotiating leverage.  He's out of here first chance he gets.
