JERRY'S HEAD

The Ray Durham era may have ended, but perhaps the Willie Harris era has just begun?

Thanks to the new secondbasemen recalled from Charlotte, the Sox were scoring early and often, 10-2 victors over Kansas City.  Lots of old problems seemed to straighten themselves out in this game.

It wasn't enough to prevent Frank Thomas from getting booed.  Kenny Williams is probably engineering on a "final solution" to this problem, too.

Ken Lofton who has done a remarkable job impersonating a corpse in the leadoff spot, came alive in a big way.  His 3 for 4 performance (plus a walk) set up the entire Sox offense.  Shades of last April, eh Sox Fans?

Danny Wright was brilliant on the mound through six shutout innings.  He walked two while striking out a career-high seven hitters.

Though he and the bullpen were touched for two runs in the seventh, the Sox offense--Miracles!--responded to the challenge by answering with six runs of their own!

And who was in the middle of all of this?  Our new #2 hitter, secondbasemen Willie Harris.  He worked a full count in the first inning before delivering a key single, setting up the Sox for the early lead.  His solo blast in the third extended the lead and put the Sox in charge the remainder of the game.  He figured prominently in the big six-run seventh inning, too.

Will the league's pitchers eventually catch up with Willie?  Perhaps, but as long as we keep beating Kansas City, the Sox can be sure of not finishing dead-last in the division.  At this point in the season, Sox Fans, we have to measure progress in very small increments.

Willie Harris

2 for 4, a solo dinger, a sacrifice fly, and two runs batted in.  Never struck out either.
