Pre-Game Report

Inside
JERRY'S HEAD

Only the White Sox could prop up a clueless opponent like Baltimore for nearly five hours, just so they could drop another ballgame, this time in 14 innings.  This was the World Series of stupid baseball.  Needless to say, the Sox were the losers again.  4-3 was the final.

Virtually every key play in this game came as a result of somebody having their head ten feet up their rectal orifice.  It was uncanny.  Most of the tourists inside Camden Yards were probably too distracted to notice what a crap game they were watching--assuming any of them cared to watch the game in front of them.  It's the Urinal of the Mid-Atlantic.

The Sox left ten men on base, but that's only half the story.  The Sox hit into two double-plays (Jose Valentin and Paul Konerko), were picked off base twice (Royce Clayton and Magglio Ordonez), and caught stealing once (Ray Durham).

Leadoff man Ken Lofton was an incredible 0 for 7.  Nearly as bad was Jose Valentin, 0 for 6 with a strikeout.  Nine strikeouts by the Sox.  Kudos to Frank Thomas for earning the golden sombrero, three K's on the night.  Jerry "The Tinkerer" Manuel had him back in the #6 slot.  What's next for Frank, long reliever?

In the blind squirrel department, Royce Clayton fails twice to get the bunt down in the seventh inning with the go-ahead run at first base.  So on a 1-2 pitch he rears back and rips an rbi double instead.  Great job!  Just the way The Tinkerer drew it up on the chalkboard!

With a 3-2 lead, closer Antonio Osuna blew it in the ninth giving up a leadoff double, a sacrifice, and a single.  Nardi Conteras ("Now A Real Disaster Imminent") was wearing a path to and from the Sox dugout offering pitching advice to everyone in The Tinkerer's bucket brigade.  Was this the first time he wasn't wearing a warm up jacket?  The Tinkerer was still wearing his.

Bob Howry allowing a leadoff double in the fourteenth inning sealed the team's fate.  Sox reject Brook Fordyce finally came through in the clutch, the man the Sox had been searching for for nearly five hours.  Namely, he was the guy to finally administer the death blow to the brain-dead zombie's head.  That's all the Sox are these days.

Barring some freak of nature, tomorrow comes the sweep.

Ray Durham

3 for 4 and two walks, two runs scored.  No strikeouts, no double-plays grounded into, and never picked off base either.  No wonder he won't be playing for the Sox much longer.
