Well, that was different!  The Sox are comatose for 8.2 innings, then suddenly wake up and score four runs.  Too bad they needed five.

The Sox fail to mount late-inning comeback again, 5-4 losers to the pathetic Detroit Tigers.

Crazy, crazy, crazy.  Sorry Sox Fans, but this was not your garden variety display of Sox corpseball.  This was quite unique.  And since the Sox lost, perhaps not unexpected?

Instead of corpseball, the whole bizarre mess was reminiscent of that scene from Pulp Fiction where Mia (Uma Thurman) is comatose from a heroine overdose.  She's fading fast and you know she is sure to die.  Then the druggie finally finds his medical kit and Vincent (John Travolta) slams an adrenaline shot into her heart.  Pow!  Just like that, she instantly wakes up and goes flying across the room in a horror-filled scream.  After a few moments of wreathing in pain, she finally stops flailing long enough to look down and sees the giant needle still stuck in her chest.  Then she knows what happened, and goes home a wreck.

Quite an image, eh?  And isn't that precisely what Sox Fans were treated to?  "Wow.  Pretty trippie!"

Brian Moeller was throwing some crap out there.  As usual, our fastball-loving hitters were hacking away.  On nights like these, some of our guys ought to be handed a butterfly net in the on-deck circle.  They look ridiculous.  Moeller went seven shutout innings and allowed just three hits.

It appeared the highlight of the entire game would be Frank Thomas arguing a called third strike, naturally getting himself tossed from the game.  Funny stuff, really.  That umpire proved he has large cajones to face down the big man.  Frank could have broken him in half.  As for the umpire's eyesight, obviously he needs help.

Nobody thought much about Keith Foulke allowing another run to score in the top of the ninth.  It was 5-0 Detroit.  Ray Durham led off the bottom of the inning with a single and Jeff Liefer reached on an error.  Still Magglio Ordonez dutifully grounded into a double-play, and Sox Fans started making for the exits.

Boing!  Here comes that adrenaline shot!

Jose Valentin  and Carlos Lee hit back-to-back monster shot homeruns scoring three more Sox runs, and just like that the score is 5-4.  Two more hits by Sandy Alomar and Royce Clayton put the tying and winning runs on base.  Can the Sox really do it???

Nah.  Ken Lofton flied out.  Game over.

Fade to black.  Roll the credits.  This performance might be worthy of an Academy Award--but not a win.

Mia survived.  The Sox didn't.  Who's surprised?
