Pre-Game Report

How soft have our Chicago White Sox become, that the entire team can come unhinged by a pair of errors?  The veteran guy we traded young pitchers for, utterly collapsed along with the other eight guys on the field.  A 3-0 Sox lead is vaporized by a fifth inning lame effort that saw Cleveland score eight unearned runs.

Sox Fans, has this ever happened before?

Did we even need to mention the Sox laid down the rest of the way?  The Sox managed just one more run and  fall 8-4.  This team isn't dead; it's scared.  Scared of what might happen next.  Sox Fans are scared of what might happen next, too.  Unlike these players and their overpaid egos, we've been putting up with it for over 80 years.

Todd Ritchie had a perfect game through 4.1 innings.  A throwing error by Jose Valentin and a missed catch by Ray Durham, combined with Ritchie's meltdown, was enough to send eleven Cleveland hitters to the plate.

Aren't you glad we traded for this veteran presence?

Whatever effects Jerry Manuel's big 45-minute talk with the team Friday might have had was wiped out.  The gutless pigs folded up the tent and got busy with losing their sixth straight.

1-2-3 in the sixth.  One run in the seventh.  A two-out rally yields nothing in the eighth.  1-2-3 in the ninth.

Let's not get too full of ourselves that the errors were the turning point.  This team played stupid baseball long before the fifth inning.  The dumbest of all was the flawed strategic thinking that had Royce Clayton bunting with runners on second and third and less than two out.  Was that Clayton's or Manuel's decision?  One of them needs to be slapped.

That was the second out of the second inning.  Ray Durham salvaged nothing, striking out to end the inning.  That was the first of three strikeouts our leadoff man made.  It's as close to a true rally as this brain-dead lot managed all day, too.

Who's to blame for this major league mess?  Manuel?  Williams?  Contreras?  The offense?  The pitching?  The defense?

Silly--YOU are to blame!  Remember?  This is the team we can afford.

Mr. Reinsdorf wishes to remind you, this ain't Walmart.  No returns or exchanges--and don't bother showing him your receipt either.

Is it too late to hope for a strike?  How about an ownership change, too?
