WSI News - Totally Biased Game Recaps

Close, But No Cigar

September 20 at Houston Astros

Sox Office Smash Hit:
The Emoji Movie
Oh, poop emoji.

Short Take:  Sox can't quite pull it off this time, fall short in 4-3 loss to Astros

In the years that I've been doing this game report, I think this is the first time I've had to mostly rely on the box score to try to put something together. Today my day (and night, apparently) job called my name and I could only occasionally tune in while the Sox racked up their latest loss. Because box scores don't lend well to funny or sarcastic prose, here's your Totally Boring (and Incredibly Short) Game Report.

The first-place Houston Astros beat the cellar-dweller Sox in Game 2 of this 3-game series, 4-3.

I did manage to look up enough to notice that James Shields walked 4, and 3 of those runners scored. In a 4-3 loss, well, that hurt. And in the 5th, I saw Nicky Delmonico and Alen Hanson flash some nice defense in the outfield, further sparing Shields from more runs on his record. Jace Fry gave up a triple to Josh Reddick in relief. Reddick scored on Jose Altuve's single, for the only insurance run the Astros would need.

Yoan Moncada's 4th-inning homer to the right field seats with one on scored the only 2 runs off Houston starter Brad Peacock. The Sox scraped out another run in the 8th with a Yolmer Sanchez double, scoring Tim Anderson.

It just wasn't quite enough.

Sox face Houston again tomorrow at 7:10 pm, Carson Fulmer vs. Dallas Keuchel.

Only two more weeks and we can start dreaming about 2018...if you haven't already.
