Who Are You And What Have You Done With My White Sox?

July 25 vs. the Cleveland Indians

Sox Project Update:
Big Backfill Effort
The crew has worked quickly in the past three days to fill the hole that's been dug.

Short Take:The Sox continued their out-of-body experience as they beat the Indians 10-3 in Cleveland.

Cleveland rocks, at least for the White Sox. For the third game in a row, the Sox beat the Indians and scored a bunch of runs. Tonight it was 10-3 in favor of the newly-anointed South Side Hitmen. After watching the Sox play the first 92 games as if they were apologizing for taking up space in the batter's box, it almost gives one vertigo to count all these runs.

Chris Sale pitched the first seven innings. He was good, giving up two runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts, but we've been spoiled by his double-digit strikeout performances and somehow think that "only" seven strikeouts are below standard. Didn't matter tonight. His teammates have been eating their Wheaties and provided an embarrassment of riches in run support.

The hot-bat show started right away. Carlos Carrasco gave up singles to the first four Sox hitters, and after a strikeout and a fielder's choice gave up a double and another single to give the suddenly strong South Siders a 5-0 lead. What's going on? These guys haven't done this kind of thing all year.

The Sox picked up another run in the fourth on Carlos Sanchez's first homer. Yes, even Sanchez was hitting tonight.

The Wahoos did get on the board in the fifth after Carlos Santana's leadoff double led to a run when Jesus Aguilar singled him home to make it 6-1. Not to worry, though, as the Sox grabbed two more in the seventh on another string of singles. Adam Eaton and Tyler Saladino beat out infield hits and Melky Cabrera made a ground ball dance off the infielders' gloves for an RBI single. Adam LaRoche then got his own single to drive in one more. Now it's 8-1 and started to look like it might be for real.

The Lake Erie Eeries scratched out one run in each of the seventh and eighth innings, but they were inconsequential. The Sox waved off those two runs as if they were gnats and posted two more in the top of the ninth to make it 10-3. Zach Putnam came in to pitch the ninth and humanely put the Clevelanders to sleep.

Could this be a trend? Or are these three games statistical flukes? Pick your color: are these blue-moon or black-swan events that won't have bearing on the rest of the second half? Or, maybe more importantly, on the imminent trading deadline?

Tune in next week as the adventure continues. Will somebody bite on the Shark? Will Adam keep eatin' up the basepaths? Will LaRoche add to his collection of golden sombreros? Will Alexei reflexively keep hitting? And, the biggest question of all, will the battery in Rick Hahn's phone hold up?

That and more in our next episode. Stay tuned!

WSI's
Rebuilding Recap:
A great deal of lumber has been moved to the site in the past three days. We'll watch to see if the crew can assemble it securely.
