Maybe one more pitcher?

The Sox did exactly what they needed to do to recover from the sweep in Oakland, they won the series with the Mariners, and they took two out of three from the Aís. This is exactly how the Sox won the division in 2000, by winning the majority of the seriesí they played early in the season, and it allowed them to coast after the All ĖStar break. This team is not the same team that the 2000 team was, but it can compete with any team in the league, another starting pitcher may be the puzzle piece to put them in the rank of a top team in the league, but what is the price they would have to pay for it? The thought of sacrificing the future to gamble on winning now does not sit well with me, I have seen teams do that only to lose in the playoffs and be terrible for a few seasons to boot, I will stick with the plan of building a good talent base that can be competitive enough to threat year in and year out. It has worked for the Braves for over a decade now, be good enough to get into the playoffs and see what happens after that. Yes I know itís been 84 years since the last title, but to gamble the farm on a maybe does not strike me as the wise choice.†

Farewell, Jim and Jon.

Jon Rauch got rocked against the Mariners, surviving just 1/3 of an inning, and he was followed by Jim Parque coming in to get hit like a red headed stepchild. Both were rewarded with one way plane tickets to Charlotte. In Rauchís case this was a good move, he wasnít ready to come north anyway, and the Sox really need to stop rushing their young arms to the big club, so far one pitcher has survived being brought up too soon, and the jury is still out on another, the rest have crashed and burned. Jim Parque may never be seen in a White Sox uniform again, he has not made any friends among the Sox upper management with the way he handled being sent down the first time, and was brought to prove that he is not ready to pitch at the MLB level. I would not be surprised to see him left in Charlotte till he can be dealt, possibly as an add on in a package deal for another starter. Call it a prime example of letting your mouth dictate your fate, attitude can be as important as talent sometimes. I would like to add a congratulations to Mike Cameron for tying an MLB record for hitting four homeruns in consecutive at bats, becoming the thirteenth player in MLB history to accomplish it. It does help when your getting served up 82 MPH fastballs down the middle of the plate though.†

Greetings, Rocky and Matt.

The demotions of Rauch and Parque was followed with the call up of Rocky Biddle and Matt Ginter, I donít know that Biddle is 100%, but he looked fine and was effective the one time I saw him pitch. I am sure Ginter was called up because he has MLB experience; there was no other reason to bring him up. Biddle will probably work his way back into the rotation, but I am glad to see that they are willing to let him continue to work his arm out of the pen till he is healthy instead of plunking him back in the rotation, like they did last season. I still havenít figured out why the Sox chose to pitch him last year knowing he was hurt, but it would have been nice to have him healthy in the three spot when the team came north this season, and it would have spared Jon Rauch out of taking a spot he was not ready for. I expect little out of Ginter, anything positive that he does is a plus in my book, I hope Kelly Wunsch can get his act together sooner than later. From what I have seen out of the WSI minor league reports Kelly is doing well, and we will soon be rid of Mike Porzio.

The Best Interest of Baseball?† NOT!†

Just a few random notes, the court battle over the Twins existence is building, and the owners are starting to send some shots of their own, with Carl Pohlad not dealing with any† potential buyers he is sending a message to the entire world that he would rather take the money and run, so much for the integrity of the GAME. The MLBPA has offered to give a pledge against a strike if the owners will agree to not call an impasse in the negotiations, but that will not happen, so there is still no guarantee that we will see playoff baseball this year. Attendance continues to be down throughout the league, and it will continue till MLB gets their house in order, and the media cannot blame the fans for it. If there is a work stoppage in MLB I for one will walk away,† I should have on the last one in 94 and didnít, I wonít get fooled again†

Just a quick get well soon to Jack Roush, he survived a plane crash and is now recovering at home in Michigan, keep it up Jack.
