Sox Conspiracy?

The case for Reinsdorf leaving town with our team.

Iím not big on conspiracy theories.† Most of them are full of holes big enough to drive a Mack truck through.† However, Iím beginning to wonder if this yearís Sox are the victims of a conspiracy by The Chairman and his cohorts to move the club out of Chicago.†

Think about it.† Itís the only explanation for some of the events of this season that, had we not witnessed them ourselves, would seem as if they were part of a story from Bizarro World.†

Is there any explanation for why Royce Clayton and Jose Valentin continue to block Joe Credeís promotion after Credeís tearing up AAA ball for two years?† Instead of seeing the development of a kid who may be a future star, weíve been treated to two years of Clayton sleeping until June before his bat wakes up.† Why?†

Is there any explanation for why it took three pitchers to pry Todd Ritchie away from the Pirates?† The same Todd Ritchie who started the 2001 season with an 0-8 record?† The Todd Ritchie who is currently leading the American League in Losses?

Is there any explanation for why our pitchers, once considered to be among the top prospects in baseball fail to develop as expected?† Is there any explanation as to why so many of them went down with injuries?

Is there any explanation for the absolute silence coming from The Chairman while Prof. Chaos (Kenny Williams) and Gen. Disarray (Jerry Manuel) continue to trot out a bunch of guys who canít pitch, canít play defense, and, despite the predictions before the season started, canít hit?††

Is there any explanation as to why our baserunning is so bad?† Why do so many of our runners get picked off or trapped in rundowns?

Is there any possible reason why our hitters canít drive in runners who get into scoring position with no one out?†

Is there any possible explanation as to why Prof. Chaos, Gen. Disarray, and their minions still hold onto their jobs while the team that was supposed to easily win the AL Central just sinks deeper into the quicksand?

Could it be that The Chairman has decided that Chicago really is a Cubs town and that he wants to move the Sox to greener pastures?† Could it be that the mess thatís on the field is intentional, and that The Chairman wants to drive away the remaining season ticket holders so he can declare his financial position in Chicago untenable and move the club to greener pastures?†

What other explanation could there be for his hiring of such incompetent goofs to run what used to be a proud major league franchise?† It has to be a conspiracy.† No one in his right mind would put up with the level of incompetence shown by those in charge of running this ball club unless the idea was to drive it into the ground.

We should have seen it coming when we heard statements like, ďI donít care if weíre last in defense,Ē coming from Gen. Disarray.† We should have seen it when Prof. Chaos said about Kip Wells and Josh Foggís stellar performance in Pittsburgh, ďThey wouldnít have done that here.Ē† Of course they wouldnít.† Itís part of the conspiracy.† Give the players bad coaching and they wonít perform.† If the players donít perform, the fans will stay away.† If the fans stay away, you can sell the team to interests from outside of Chicago who, citing the lack of fan support, will move the Sox to Mexico City, or Las Vegas, or some other city that would love to have major league baseball.

Donít you see, it all fits?† In 1919, as many as eight Sox players conspired to throw the World Series for a few thousand dollars.† In 2002 Sox ownership is throwing the season for the hundreds of millions of dollars theyíll be able to make when they sell off the team to have it move elsewhere.

What can the fans do to prevent this?† Itís simple.† Buy tickets.† Show up at the ballpark.† Donít give The Chairman an excuse.† But when you buy your tickets and show up, boo.† Boo long and boo loudly.† Boo the stiffs on the field who arenít producing.† Boo Gen. Disarray when he comes out to change pitchers for the thirty seventh time in the same inning.† Turn towards The Chairmanís box and boo loudest at him and at Prof. Chaos for subjecting us to this lousy excuse for a ball club.† Itís your right as a fan.
