Enquiring Sox Fans want to know!

If only Sox Fans knew...
Last Series vs. Detroit
  • The Sox lost 3 of 5 against Detroit in the first series after the All-Star Break, July 11-14.
  • The Sox and Tigers played a double header on July 13 (the Sox got swept, 5-3, 3-1).
  • Despite losing the Series, the Sox outscored Detroit, 20-16.
Totally Biased Sox Notes
  • You wouldn't know it by the way he is ignored by mainstream media, but Sox outfielder Magglio Ordonez is having one of the best years in baseball right now.  He is 2nd in the AL Triple Crown average (an average of the player's spot on the league leader boards in the Triple Crown stats; homers, RBIs, and batting average).  Only Alex Rodriguez's (5th in BA, 1st in HR, 1st in RBI) average of 2.1 is better than Magglio's average of 4.7 (4-7-3) in the American League.
  • Why is Jim Parque still remotely related to pitching?  Since being called up, the soft-tossing lefty has a record of 1-3, an ERA of 10.67, and a WHIP of 2.09.  Even, worse, if you take away his best outing (his first start, August 8th against Anahiem in which he went 5.1 innings, allowed 5 hits, walked 3, and allowed 2 earned runs), Parque's numbers are (in 9 innings of work over 3 games), an ERA of 15.00, and a WHIP of 2.44.
  • Detroit is one of the few teams Dan Wright has been consistently good against in his young MLB career.  In 32.1 IP (spanning 5 games, all of them starts), Wright has allowed 14 earned runs for an ERA of 3.90 and a record of 3-1.  Go Danny!
  • The Sox have been woeful away from Comiskey, amassing a record of 24-41 in road games this year.
Know thy Enemy!
  • Randall Simon continues his amazing success at such a freeswinging pace.  The young first baseman has only TEN walks in 116 games (445 plate appearances).  However, he has a batting average of .303 (.320 OBP) and has only struck out 24 times.  However, he is hitting .344 since the All-Star break (with four walks and 10 strike outs)
  • Jose Lima has been less than successful against the Sox this year.  In 3 games (2 starts), he's 0-1, but has allowed 15 earned runs in 7.1 innings pitched for an ERA of 18.41.  On the flip side, Mike Maroth, in one start against the Sox has a 1-0 record and an ERA of 1.29 (1 ER, 7 IP)
  • Since the All-Star break, the Tigers have been out-hit by their opponents by THIRTY points.  The Tigers are hitting .252 since the break, while their pitchers have allowed others to hit .282 off them.
  • You know you suck when you're behind Tampa Bay in any way, shape or form.  The Tigers 503 runs scored thus far this season is the lowest in the American League, a whopping 40 behind the second-to-last Devil Rays (and 183 behind the White Sox who are third in the AL... somehow).
What to watch for!
  • The Strike.  Luckily it will wipe out a Jim Parque start, so we're all glad about that.
  • Tinkering!
  • Isn't it about time we had another brawl?  That's about the only thing that would make this series interesting.
  • Can the Sox win ANOTHER series?  Or are we asking too much?
