Ba Da Bing!
(August 8)
Short take: Don't Disrespect us!
This game couldn't have been more different than the one the day
before. For the first time this entire season, the Chicago White Sox
played a game on the west coast where they scored early, often, and shutdown
the opposition from start to finish. Finally a left-coast laugher, Sox
cruise15-1 over Anaheim.
Ba Da Bing!
The difference was evident from the very first pitch. Ray Durham
ripped a double on that one and the Sox were off to the races. Sox Fans
fretted when a two-on, nobody-out situation resulted in just two runs.
"Anxious" describes Sox Fans feelings after defacto ace Mark
Buehrle gave one of those runs back in the bottom of the inning.
We've been down this path before.
But not tonight!
The Sox offense was hitting on all cylinders and wouldn't stop all
night. A four-run third inning was highlighted by a three-run dinger by
sore-kneed Sandy Alomar, who then left the game. The Sox were up
6-1 and would never look back. They scored each inning starting in the
fifth. Seven Sox hitters finished with multiple-hit games.
Hey, Ray Durham stole a base! This is unusual!
Meanwhile starter Mark Buehrle was his usual brilliant self.
He went the full nine innings with just 99 pitches, 64 for strikes.
After that rough first inning he settled in and pitched a two-hitter the rest
of the way. His ERA is a microscopic 2.90!
So once again the Sox are at an unmentionable W-L record, looking to win
tomorrow's game to achieve a certain unspeakable feat which they've failed to
attain numerous previous times.
We'll leave it at that.
