High point of the 1999 season --
a Glorious Sweep  of the Flubbies.

White Sox News Flash
As usual, April Fool's Day comes early to Chicago's sports fans.  We are referring of course to the annual Cubs Convention being held this weekend in downtown Chicago.  Quotes from the first day's events are priceless.  Mark Grace says he didn't like how ex-manager Jim Riggleman didn't talk "championship" often enough.  Yeah right, like some clubhouse speech would ever stop Sammy from trying to hit 368 foot home runs.

The whole thing is soldout which proves P.T. Barnum's point.  There is one born every minute!

--------------------------------------------------------

The star ex-player from Jerry Reinsdorf's other Chicago pro sports team has chosen to take an equity interest in the Washington Wizards -- dashing what slim hopes we Sox fans held for a Jordan era on the south side.  He took batting practice with the team back in 1990.  He signed a minor league contract in 1994.  He even appeared in a Sox uniform for an exhibition game against the Cubs.  Michael Jordan loves baseball almost as much as basketball.  He would have made a fine owner.

You have to wonder about the role he played in Reinsdorf's thinking back in 1988 when Florida interests came very close to convicing the Sox owner to move the team to St. Petersburg.  Would Jerry Reinsdorf have moved his Sox to Florida knowing that he would still have to stay in Chicago with the Bulls and his #1 asset, Michael Jordan?  If Jordan isn't an N.B.A. superstar back in 1988, does Jerry pay much attention to the potential fallout back in Chicago after the Sox leave?

For all we know, the Michael Jordan factor might have played a key role in saving the Sox for the south side in 1988.  Best of luck to him in his newest venture.

The REAL Cost of
Comiskey's Upper Deck
Instead of focusing solely upon the cost of fixing it, shouldn't we also consider the cost of leaving it alone?  Make no mistake,  New Comiskey's upper deck is weighing down the fortunes of the team in ways far beyond the fans' complaints and apathy.  This concrete albatross has cost the White Sox millions of dollars in potential revenue.  It's critical that this be addressed, too.   More!

They May Never Come Back
During the past several seasons, fan alienation has been a large issue swirling around the Chicago White Sox.  Attendance dropped significantly after the strike though it rebounded somewhat during 1996 and 1997.  However, in 1998 the Sox had their lowest home opening crowd in 23 years, and the attendance for 1999 was the lowest since the team barely made over 1,000,000 in 1989 when the Sox finished dead last.
